2003-2004

A. Within N.Z for NZ  focus

1) Champion Center, Christchurch (See below)

Allenvale School, Christchurch   School for children with special needs. Provides programs for children with autism, Prada Willi syndrome, Down's syndrome, fragile X,  attention deficit disorder etc.

B. Within N.Z for international focus

1) Starfish Project:  (note.. there is no specific website but the link contains some background information of the project) Consists of a group of individuals from NZ and Australia experienced in palliative care for the terminally ill who donate their time (and often money too) to use their professional skills to train and implement palliative care for those in developing countries. It is an area almost totally overlooked in many poor countries where those suffering from terminal diseases are simply abandoned or even locked away in appalling conditions. Current focus is the San Lorenzo hospital in the Philippines where recent work has been directly assisting AIDs, TB and rabies patients.  This wonderful project takes 'rehabilitation' right down to the deepest levels - that of rehabilitation of the human spirit, dignity and peace of mind, removed by the disease process and the way it is often treated in underprivileged, overcrowded societies with few resources. <STOP PRESS.. C. International direct.

1) ROSE Charities Cambodia.(Cambodia registered)   This sibling organization of the ROSE Rehabilitation network operates an ophthalmic clinic at Kien Khleng, Cambodia. It runs of sight-restoration, general eye surgery and (shortly commencing) optometry, both in training and implementation. The clinic currently performs free eye surgery for around 100 poor Cambodians per month.

2002-2003

1) Champion Center, Christchurch. The Centre offers a range of assessment, monitoring and Early Intervention services for special needs children from birth to five years. It aims to teach families/whanau how to help their child develop the skills that will allow them to take their place in their local school and community.
