Micro-finance

Presently we are able to offer funding to the people of Kalmunai Sri Lanka who were affected by the tsunami. The Rose Charities fund provides tiny, low interest loans to widows and families to enable them to start an income generating project.

Making bricks, growing and selling produce, raising chickens, are just some of the activities which can help re-build lives.

Every $100 donated will be used over and over again. The micro-credit fund is administered in Vancouver Canada by Rose Charities and all of the donation will be sent to Sri Lanka and put to work

Rose Charities will provide an official tax receipt and details of the families helped.

Micro credit transforms lives from extreme poverty to dignified, independent self-sufficiency. Every dollar loaned is repaid, then loaned again. In this way different families can be helped over and over again without the fund ever being used up, and with nothing taken for administration costs.

At a personal level...

Before the tsunami Sanjay owned a small laundry. He and his wife washed the clothes and Sanjay ironed them. Then Sanjay's wife and youngest child were drowned and his house and possessions swept away. He and his three remaining children live in a hut in one of the refugee camps - the family is desperately poor.

Sanjay has applied for a one hundred dollar micro-credit loan. With this money he can purchase an iron, rent a stall, pay the first electricity bills and start business again. Many of his old customers have been asking for him. He will make enough money to repay the loan over the next year at 1.5% interest, in small weekly installments. He will be able to support his family and begin to rebuild his life. He will be free from the humiliation of living from charity and will become a productive member of society.
