OperationFIRST with Rose Charities is the foremost Cambodian managed and run surgical training and operative facility in Cambodia. Founded in 1998 (RoseCharities) it has trained scores of Cambodian surgeons nationwide and provided hundreds of free, life changing operations for poor Cambodians. It has, and continues to play host to many expatriate organizations / teaching groups etc who kindly volunteer to come to Cambodia to assist.
OperationFIRST is based at Chea Chumeas Hospital in Takmau, about 2km south of central Phnom Penh. Its FIRST-Rose surgical center provides the facility for both training and operations. Dr Nous Sarom, the founder of OperationFIRST , is Cambodia's leading maxillo-facial and rehab. surgeon. He received training first in Cambodia, then obtained further training from Operation Unis (Japan), MSF , Rose Charities, Operation Smile and Operation Rainbow, and (most recently), the University of British Columbia. Teaching vists to the First-Rose center from staff at Chinese University of Hong Kong have now been established.
