At risk adolescent support
The Mercy Boys' Home in Guyana is a safe place for boys to go when leaving the orphanage, which they must do when they are 16. For
the majority of these boys, who have no-one, there simply isn't anywhere for them to go. Children of that age are still vulnerable, and
require a degree of care.
The cost of living in Guyana is extremely high, especially now as 16% VAT is charged on almost all goods and services.
All the boys in the home are working but their earnings are very small. The staff of the home, founded and organised by Sister Noel
Menezes, encourages the boys to save to prepare for 'real' life so they are not charged any rent.
In addition, the home bears the other main expenses such as electricity, water, telephone, Rentokil services and so on. However,
everything else depends on the generosity of benefactors. Rose Charities has recently offered its support to this home and these young
adolescents.
